Comparing Credit Cards
In the United States there are hundreds if not thousands of credit card companies that are looking for your business. Comparing credit cards and different card issuers does not have to be a hopeless task. This day and age, banks and credit card companies are in competition with each other, trying all they can to get your business. To try and get your business, they offer different credit cards with various incentives, rebates, and other perks.
First check to see what each bank or credit card company has to offer you before you decide to choose their card. If you get an offer in the mail for a credit card, you should go on the Internet and look into it more. You should also make sure that you read the fine print as well, to see if there are any type of hidden fees or other costs associated with that card. You are more likely to get a bank or credit card company that tries to sneak these hidden costs or fees in there, when they do send you postal mailing solicitations.
When you start to compare offers, you should make sure that you look at the APR and the fees. The APR is very important, as this will tell you your interest rate. You want to get the lowest possible APR that you can on any card that you get. So while you are comparing credit cards and you come across a credit card that has a higher than normal APR, you need to cross it off your list immediately. Credit cards that carry high APR traditionally lead people on that eventual road to credit card debt. Regardless of how good your credit may be, when you have credit cards that carry high APR rates, you will find that you are left with charges that are difficult to pay.
When you are comparing credit cards you will have many options to choose from but three primary credit card choices. The Visa Credit Card, the MasterCard Credit Card and the American Express Credit Card. These are the three giant credit card lenders in the Untied States. Visa and MasterCard don’t issue the cards themselves, they have banks and other companies issue on their behalf. American Express, or AMEX, is the only one that does everything themselves. MasterCard and Visa rely on credit card companies and banks to issue cards on their behalf while AMEX not just issues the cards but maintains their own network and doesn't use any type of outside third party whatsoever. They do literally everything themselves.
If the reason that you want to get a credit card is utilizing it while you travel abroad, then you should probably choose Visa and MasterCard because they are accepted worldwide. American Express is the least accepted of the three, although the company is upgrading their networks every chance they get. Before too long, AMEX will be accepted virtually everywhere. Right now though, AMEX isn't accepted in all areas of the world.
